Renewal of Vows: Famous Pinoy Personality Couples Who Renewed Their Vows

There are various reasons why married couples renew their vows: it can be to celebrate a momentous milestone in their relationship such as that of silver or golden anniversaries, to recommit to each other and be reminded of the promises they swore on the first time or to have a semblance of a formal wedding once again.

Who Among The Famous Pinoy Personality Couples Renewed Their Vows
The Philippines has its own share of popular vow renewals made publicly by our favorite Pinoy personality couples. Wondering who they are? Here is a quick list.

1.       Richard Gomez and Lucy Torres. Their love story is like the one you see in the movies. They first met in 1993 on a commercial shoot for a soap ad. The chemistry was there, only… they were both taken at that time. But fate brought them back together after a few years. They were unattached by then and Richard started pursuing Lucy with intense fervor from daily phone calls from Germany to charming Lucy’s and her family’s hearts until he received her much-awaited yes. They got engaged on the same year, 1997 and in the summer of 1998, April 28 to be exact, they finally tied the knot. It was held at Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Ormoc City and was considered as one of the most publicized wedding in the country. One Sunday, exactly fifteen years later, they took some time off from campaigning – Gomez was running for mayor then while Lucy for another term as a representative of Leyte’s 4th District – and celebrated their anniversary through a renewal of vows at the same church.

2.       Miriam Defensor and Narciso Yap Santiago, Jr. The feisty senator has always wanted to experience marching down the aisle with her 3 granddaughters. The opportunity presented itself on her 40 years of marriage. Held on June 19, 2011, 6 in the evening at the Manila Cathedral, she and her husband exchanged their “I Do”’s the second time around.  Officiated by Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales, the entourage was led by VIPs namely President Benigno Aquino III as the best man and showbiz actress Heart Evangelista as maid of honor. Several huge names in the Philippine politics, business and media also graced the occasion: Vice President Jejomar Binay; Senators Edgardo Angara, Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano, Jinggoy Estrada, Loren Legarda, Ramon Revilla Jr., Antonio Trillanes IV, Manuel Villar, and Juan Miguel Zubiri; former presidents Joseph Estrada and Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo; Chief Justice Renato Corona; businessmen Manuel V. Pangalinan and Eduardo Cojuangco Jr; newspaper icons Marixi Prieto and Dr. Emilio Yap; and media personalities like Korina Sanchez and GMA network chairman/CEO Felipe Gozon. Asked about their secret to a successful marriage, Sen. Miriam said: "We never see each other in my house. That's the secret. Sometimes, I'm surprised that I'm married to someone so good-looking because I hardly ever see him." And as for her advice to young couples:  "Be kind to each other."

3.       Alvin Patrimonio and Cindy Conwi. The PBA icon renewed his lifetime pledges with his lovely wide after being married for 25 years. Held at the Blue Leaf Events Pavilion at the Fort, their daughters were the maids of honor whereas their sons were the best men. Asked about their formula for making their relationship last, here is what his significant other said: “Without God at the center of our marriage, we would not have reached this far. As human beings, there are times we tend to think only of ourselves. But once you get to know the right things to do according to God’s word, it helps you to become unselfish”. And as for the vow on their silver nuptials: “Even with all the trials we have faced in the past 25 years, I hated going through them but I would not change a single thing because we would not be as strong and as in love if we didn’t experience them. Being with you is such a gift from God. I love the life you have given me. Thank you for loving me.
